Transportation Services in Sacramento

Sacramento Regional Transit District
Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) operates 97 bus routes and 36.87 miles of light rail covering a 418 square-mile service area. Buses and light rail run 365 days a year using 76 light rail vehicles, 254 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and 17 shuttle vans. Buses operate daily from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every 15 to 75 minutes, depending on the route. Light rail trains begin operation at 4:30 a.m. with service every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the evening. The Blue Line trains run until 1 a.m. and the Gold Line to Folsom runs until 7 p.m.. RT's entire bus and light rail system is accessible to the disabled community. Also, RT provides a door-to-door transportation service (in accordance with its responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act) for Sacramento area residents who are unable to use fixed-route service. RT provides this service through a contract with Paratransit, Incorporated, and paratransit ridership has more than doubled since 1993.

Paratransit, Inc., is a private nonprofit corporation dedicated to providing transportation services to individuals with disabilities, the elderly, and related agencies throughout the Sacramento County area. We've been creating independence through smart transit since 1978 and look forward to serving you.

Resources for Adaptive Sports

Access Leisure - Programs for Persons with Disabilities
The City of Sacramento, Access Leisure, offers a variety of adapted sports programs such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair softball, power soccer, Access Aquatics and even a cheerleading team. They also offer information on where you can participate in wheelchair tennis, adapted waterskiing, white water rafting, dance, drama, the arts, adapted downhill or cross country snow skiing, and adapted weight training for adults.

Disabled Sports USA
DS/USA now offers nationwide sports rehabilitation programs to anyone with a permanent disability. Activities include winter skiing, water sports, summer and winter competitions, fitness and special sports events. Participants include those with visual impairments, amputations, spinal cord injury, dwarfism, multiple sclerosis, head injury, cerebral palsy, and other neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions.
